A grey, even sky over the water, with a kind SSW breeze on the water with the glass holding level. The water to cover at Lyon Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Lyon Lake is listed under Sunshine Coast Regional District, British Columbia. It stands 1,067 metres above sea level. At about 15 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. With about 3.2 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Start from Madeira Park, 9.1 km down the road. Beyond it, South Pender Harbour at 9.2 km and Halfmoon Bay at 14 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Records held for Sunshine Coast Regional District cover Chum salmon, Coho salmon, pink salmon and sockeye salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Lyon Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Typical August readings run about 15°C; by December the average is down near 0°C. The swings are modest, so patterns change slowly. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. At Lyon Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Harris Lake, 3.5 km away. None of that is settled for Lyon Lake in what we hold.
