Soft grey light all day today, with a decent ESE wind working the banks with a settled glass. Whatever swims in Lavoie Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

Lavoie Lake is a Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako water, in British Columbia. Land around it is pine and birch. This is sizeable water at about 2.30 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The perimeter runs near 12 km, so plan the walk before you start. Some 63 km away sits Vanderhoof, the nearest settlement. Kamloops sits 418 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Open biodiversity records for Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako list sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon, pink salmon and Chum salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. On Lavoie Lake the quiet end is the one worth the extra effort.
Between January at about -12°C and July at about 13°C, the water has a wide range to work through. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. It sets the rhythm of the year at Lavoie Lake.
No access rule appears in what we hold. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping records no formal access here, so plan for a walk and soft ground. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Johny Lake at 3.5 km is the sensible second choice. Ask locally about Lavoie Lake if anything is unclear.
