Sunshine start to finish today, with a persistent wind from the NNE with the glass holding level. Whatever swims in Lamb Lake should be near the weed line and any gaps in it. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water.

Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako in British Columbia is where Lamb Lake sits. Height above sea level is 864 metres. It runs to roughly 88 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. Around 5.9 km of bank, which is a long day on foot. The nearest place of any size is Vanderhoof, 50 km away. Fort St. James lies 56 km off, Prince George another 62 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth figures are not published for this one. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. County-wide records name sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chinook salmon and pink salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. The shape of Lamb Lake decides where the fish sit.
Long-term averages put July at about 14°C and January near -11°C. Winter closes the water for a while, and the reopening is worth catching. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Plan any trip to Lamb Lake around it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Urn Lake sits 6.5 km off and takes the overflow. Signs at Lamb Lake carry more weight than any list.
