Overcast skies today, with a whisper of wind from the NNE with the glass holding level. Expect most activity at Laidman Lake around sheltered bays and points. Quiet conditions all day, with the morning marginally better. Quiet tactics only; the fish will not chase today. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Look for Laidman Lake in Cariboo Regional District, British Columbia. The bank is 997 metres above sea level. About 2.17 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. At about 13 km of edge, most people work one arm at a time. Few waters listed in Cariboo Regional District are bigger. Anahim Lake sits 75 km from the bank. Then Vanderhoof, 124 km, and Burns Lake, 128 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Cariboo Regional District: sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout and Coho salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Laidman Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Averages move between -10°C in January and 12°C in July. A hard winter is normal, and the thaw brings a strong few weeks. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. The open-water window runs from around late April to about mid November in an average year. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. It sets the rhythm of the year at Laidman Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. A pier or jetty stands 310 m away, which helps on a crowded bank. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Williamson Lake, 5.7 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Laidman Lake for certain.
