An even grey lid over the water, with the surface near flat and the barometer holding steady. On Kingfisher Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Shortening days concentrate the feeding into fewer hours.

Within Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, British Columbia, you have Kingfisher Lake. The land about it is lake country bush. With some 24 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. About 2.6 km of bank, so nothing stays unexplored for long. Some 42 km away sits Prince George, the nearest settlement. Vanderhoof lies 84 km off, Fort St. James another 95 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
No chart reached our records; the first cast is your sounding. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Regional District of Fraser-Fort George include Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, mountain whitefish, rainbow trout and Arctic grayling. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Fish Kingfisher Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
The seasonal spread runs -10°C to 15°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid November. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Kingfisher Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Sucker Lake is 1.7 km distant. Check the current arrangement for Kingfisher Lake.
