Broken cloud drifting past the moon tonight, with next to no ripple and steady pressure. On Kidd Lake, work inflow corners and shaded margins first. Even, unhurried fishing on the cards. Change depth before you change anything else. A properly cold day, so expect slow, deliberate fishing.

Kidd Lake is one of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District waters in British Columbia. Elevation runs to 1,047 metres. Around 18 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. A shoreline of some 1.8 km keeps the choices simple. Merritt sits 24 km from the bank. After that come Princeton at 52 km and Logan Lake at 65 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
We hold no survey for this water; read the slope of the shoreline instead. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. County-wide records name Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon and Coho salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Kidd Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Typical August readings run about 15°C; by January the average is down near -7°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Once it clears, about early April, the fishing comes on quickly. Ice usually gives way near early April, and forms again about late November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. The season on Kidd Lake rarely departs from it.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. Miner Lake at 2.5 km is the sensible second choice. Where Kidd Lake is concerned, a local answer beats a written one.
