Flat light and a covered sky today, with mild air moving in from the SSE and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Kelsall Lake along the seam between weed and open water. The productive run goes night into morning. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Kelsall Lake is one of the Stikine Region waters in British Columbia. The water sits 868 metres up. It covers about 10.78 sq km, which means weather matters as much as tactics. The outline measures near 20 km, so local knowledge counts. Size puts it in the front rank of our Stikine Region list. Skagway at 77 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Anchorage, 749 km away. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Stikine Region records list Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and mountain whitefish among the fish reported. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Kelsall Lake repays a walk before the first cast.
The warmest month averages 10°C, the coldest about -13°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Winter locks it down, and late May brings it back. Break-up near late May, freeze-up near late October: that is the shape of an average year. Spring is short and heavy here; autumn is longer and steadier. It sets the rhythm of the year at Kelsall Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Formal access is not mapped, so the last stretch is likely on foot. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Bank access can be seasonal on ground like this. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Kusawak Lake at 15 km is the sensible second choice. Treat access at Kelsall Lake as something to verify.
