Soft grey light all day today, with mild air moving in from the N and the barometer holding steady. Keary Lake should fish best around shallow cover and weed edges today. A hard day on paper; the morning edges the rest. Go lighter and slower than usual. Bundle up; the fishing will be slow but not impossible.

You will find Keary Lake in Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, British Columbia. It sits at 1,752 metres above sea level. Around 88 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The edge covers about 6.0 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Size puts it in the front rank of our Squamish-Lillooet Regional District list. Lillooet is the closest town at 40 km. Mount Currie lies 53 km off, Pemberton another 55 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is not on record here, so the bank has to tell you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Records held for Squamish-Lillooet Regional District cover Coho salmon, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and Chinook salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. On Keary Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put August at about 11°C and January near -9°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Expect a solid lid for months and a thaw around early May. Averages place the thaw at early May and the freeze at early November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Plan any trip to Keary Lake around it.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Some stretches are reserved and marked as such on the ground. Carpenter Lake, 10 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Keary Lake is worth confirming on the day.
