Glare on the water under a clear sky, with almost no wind to speak of and pressure sitting still. On Jacks Lake, work shallow cover and weed edges first. Save your energy for the evening. Change depth before you change anything else. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Jacks Lake is one of the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine waters in British Columbia. It lies 813 metres above sea level. This is a pocket water of some 8 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine. Nearest place of any size is Terrace, 58 km away. Kitimat lies 108 km off, Smithers another 111 km. The nearest edge is a long way off, so local rules apply throughout.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Survey and observation records for Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine include pink salmon, Chum salmon and Coho salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Fish Jacks Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
On the long-term average, August reads 12°C and January reads -6°C. Winter shuts the surface down for months. Look for the thaw near late April; the fishing lifts straight after. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly mid November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Jacks Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Nothing in the way of made access shows up nearby: no ramp, no car park, no path. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Close seasons apply to some species and not others. Sand Lake at 8.7 km is the sensible second choice. Check the current arrangement for Jacks Lake.
