A rainy spell sitting over the area, with a persistent wind from the ESE and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Heather Lake should centre on the margins and the shelf beyond them. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

Heather Lake is a North Coast Regional District water, British Columbia side. It sits 2.8 km in from the sea. At about 69 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. Shoreline comes to about 4.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. It is low-lying compared with other British Columbia water we list. Nearest place of any size is Prince Rupert, 166 km away. Metlakatla follows at 226 km, then Kitimat at 232 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Survey and observation records for North Coast Regional District include Pacific cod, walleye pollock and pink salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Heather Lake a short move beats a long cast.
The seasonal spread runs 3°C to 14°C. A long season, with weather mattering more than the month. Cover comes and goes, so treat it with suspicion rather than trust. April and May are the settled weeks, with October close behind. Heather Lake fishes to that pattern most years. Settled weather over several days beats a single fine one.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. The map shows no ramp or car park nearby, so this is a walk-in water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Skidegate Lake sits 12 km off and takes the overflow. Check the position on Heather Lake before loading the car.
