A closed sky with even light today, with an easy breeze from the N with a settled glass. Start the search at Hardcastle Lake along the shaded margin through bright spells. If you must go, go in the middle of the day. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Look for Hardcastle Lake in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District part of British Columbia. Elevation runs to 1,262 metres. The water covers some 18 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 2.1 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. Clearwater lies 23 km from the water. Barrière is 45 km away, with 100 Mile House at 67 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Thompson-Nicola Regional District records list Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and rainbow trout among the fish reported. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Work Hardcastle Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Averages move between -9°C in January and 14°C in August. Seasons are distinct, and each one fishes differently. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. The season on Hardcastle Lake rarely departs from it.
We hold no note on access for this one. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No made access appears within a short radius, so plan to park on a verge and walk. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Crater Lake, 0.9 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Treat Hardcastle Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
