A rough, wind-driven day, with a persistent wind from the SSW and steady pressure. The water to cover at Grebe Lake is bays that hold the day's warmth. Little to get excited about, though the middle of the day holds a sliver of promise. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. The autumn feed-up is on; baitfish areas are the key.

Grebe Lake sits in Cariboo Regional District, out in British Columbia. The country round it is rolling bush from end to end. This is a pocket water of some 10 hectares, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. The edge runs 1.1 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. On size it sits at the modest end of our Cariboo Regional District list. 108 Mile Ranch lies 20 km from the water. For a city, Kamloops is 139 km off. The nearest boundary is well away, so one set of rules covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Survey and observation records for Cariboo Regional District include sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon and bull trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Grebe Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Average temperature peaks around 14°C in July and bottoms out near -8°C in January. Spring and autumn carry the fishing; summer and winter test it. Ice fishing carries the winter, and the water opens about mid April. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid November. Reckon on open water from spring through to late autumn, with May and June the strongest. It sets the rhythm of the year at Grebe Lake.
The rules here are undocumented as far as public sources go. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. No launch point is recorded nearby, so this is a bank water unless you carry a boat in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Moose Lake, 0.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Check the position at Grebe Lake before loading the car.
