A grey, even sky over the water, with a mirror surface most of the day with a settled glass. Expect most activity at Four Mile Lake around reed fringes and open pockets. The day fishes best from the day. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. A hard-frost feel to the day; keep expectations modest.

Four Mile Lake is a Village of Teslin water, in Yukon. It lies 728 metres above sea level. This is sizeable water at about 2.09 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. The perimeter runs near 11 km, so plan the walk before you start. Whitehorse sits 173 km from the bank. Anchorage sits 968 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name Chinook salmon, lake whitefish, Arctic grayling, least cisco and northern pike. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Four Mile Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Long-term averages put July at about 12°C and January near -18°C. The ice season is long here and the open one short. Look for the thaw near early May; the fishing lifts straight after. Ice clears near early May and comes back about early November in a typical year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. Four Mile Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
There is no clear statement anywhere on who can fish it. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Public data shows nothing built here, so treat the whole approach as informal. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Morley Lake is 12 km off. For Four Mile Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
