A clean, cloudless night over the water, with next to no ripple with a settled glass. Activity on Fire Lake should centre on sheltered bays and points. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Look for Fire Lake in the Fraser Valley Regional District part of British Columbia. Country round the bank runs to lake country bush. This is sizeable water at about 1.68 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 12 km, and each section fishes a little differently. It ranks high for size among our Fraser Valley Regional District listings. You are 50 km from Whistler. Coquitlam is the closest city, 68 km away. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Species logged across Fraser Valley Regional District include white sturgeon, sockeye salmon, Coho salmon, Chum salmon and Chinook salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. At Fire Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
The range across the year is -4°C to 14°C. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. Count the season from break-up, usually mid April. The open-water window runs from around mid April to about late November in an average year. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Expect Fire Lake to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The closest car park is 1.3 km away, so pack accordingly. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Rules for this water may differ from the county norm. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Should this one be busy, Glacier Lake is 5.7 km off. Confirm before you fish Fire Lake.
