Flat light and a covered sky today, with an easy breeze from the NNE with the glass holding level. Activity on Dumbell Lake should centre on the seam between weed and open water. A slow day overall; the night is the best of a quiet lot. Scale down and fish slowly. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Within Cariboo Regional District, British Columbia, you have Dumbell Lake. Everything around it is rolling bush. Surface area runs to roughly 1.64 sq km, so plan for one area rather than the whole. With 8.3 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. It ranks high for size among our Cariboo Regional District listings. Anahim Lake at 122 km is the nearest place to stop. Vancouver is the closest city, 271 km away. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Cariboo Regional District list sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout and Coho salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The near bank of Dumbell Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect August near 12°C and December near -7°C on the long-run figures. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Break-up comes around late April, and the run that follows is short and strong. Ice usually gives way near late April, and forms again about mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. On Dumbell Lake that shapes the whole year.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Ghost Lake at 2.9 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Dumbell Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
