Overcast skies today, with a useful S wind pushing food about with the barometer flat. The fish at Duckfoot Lake are likely to sit near the weed line and any gaps in it. Quiet conditions all day, with the evening marginally better. Scale down and fish slowly. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Duckfoot Lake falls in Cariboo Regional District, part of British Columbia. The surface lies 1,234 metres up. It measures about 38 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The edge runs 4.7 km or so, easy to work in an afternoon. The nearest place of any size is Hanceville, 87 km away. It is 287 km to Vancouver, the nearest city. No border sits close enough to matter.
No figure exists for depth, so let the water show you. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Cariboo Regional District records list sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout, Coho salmon and longnose sucker among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Duckfoot Lake a short move beats a long cast.
Long-term averages put August at about 12°C and January near -9°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. The lid usually goes in late April, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Expect the water usable from around late April until roughly mid November. The strongest runs come at either end of the open season. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Duckfoot Lake.
We hold no note on access for this one. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. The nearest alternative is Erlandsen Lake, 5.1 km out. None of that is settled for Duckfoot Lake in what we hold.
