No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with next to no ripple and the barometer holding steady. The water to cover at Dick Lake is the first drop-off and weed lines. The day fishes best from night into morning. Fish confidently and change only when the bites stop. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Dick Lake belongs to Metro Vancouver Regional District, British Columbia. It lies 489 metres above sea level. With some 17 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. With about 2.4 km of edge, you can try several depths in one session. Head to Caulfeild, 2.5 km away, for anything you forgot. Horseshoe Bay lies 2.6 km off, Westmount another 3.2 km. One jurisdiction covers this water end to end.
There is no published depth for this one, so start shallow and work out. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Fish documented in Metro Vancouver Regional District include white sturgeon, Coho salmon, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and Chum salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Anyone new to Dick Lake should walk it once before setting up.
Expect August to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about 0°C. A long season, with weather mattering more than the month. Cover comes and goes, so treat it with suspicion rather than trust. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. On Dick Lake that shapes the whole year.
Whether you may fish here is not something records settle. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Expect a 980 m walk in from where the car goes. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. For a change of water, Whyte Lake is 1.6 km distant. Signs at Dick Lake carry more weight than any list.
