Scattered cloud dimming the moonlight, with a soft SW wind and the barometer holding steady. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Col Lake. If you must go, go in the morning. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand. Biting air and slow fish: small baits, long pauses.

Col Lake is a Columbia-Shuswap Regional District water, British Columbia side. This is lake country bush ground. It covers about 8 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. It is high ground by British Columbia standards. Big Eddy lies 16 km from the water. Revelstoke is 17 km and Sicamous 49 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Open biodiversity records for Columbia-Shuswap Regional District list sockeye salmon, Coho salmon and bull trout. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Col Lake where the bottom changes rather than where it looks deep.
In an average year August sits at 11°C and January at -10°C. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. The lid usually goes in mid May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Ice usually gives way near mid May, and forms again about early November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. At Col Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Season dates differ by species, so read the table. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. The nearest alternative is Surprise Lake, 1.3 km out. None of that is settled for Col Lake in what we hold.
