A day shaped by the wind, with light air out of the WSW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Camp Lake should come off the seam between weed and open water. Not a day the forecast likes; the evening keeps a flicker of interest. One good spot fished well beats five fished quickly.

In British Columbia, Camp Lake falls inside Regional District of Alberni-Clayoquot. The surface lies 140 metres up. It runs to roughly 20 hectares — big enough to hold fish away from the bank, small enough to learn. The whole outline is near 2.4 km, and most of it is walkable. By elevation it sits in the lower part of our British Columbia listings. Supplies mean a trip to Gold River, 35 km off. Then Tofino, 42 km, and Ucluelet, 76 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Fish documented in Regional District of Alberni-Clayoquot include Chinook salmon, sockeye salmon and Chum salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Camp Lake to its features, not to its size.
Seasonal averages run from 3°C in December up to 15°C in August. Some winters cap it and some do not. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. Spring and autumn carry the year; summer squeezes it into the ends of the day. Expect Camp Lake to follow that timing.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Should this one be busy, Ice Lake is 1.6 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Camp Lake for certain.
