No direct sun expected today, with a proper ripple driven from the NW with the barometer flat. Whatever swims in Bullock Lake should be near reed fringes and open pockets. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Bullock Lake falls in Cariboo Regional District, part of British Columbia. The land about it is mixed forest. Surface area is around 75 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. There is roughly 5.8 km of bank, more than one visit can cover properly. The closest town, 100 Mile House, is 26 km distant. 108 Mile Ranch follows at 34 km, then Cache Creek at 73 km. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Species logged across Cariboo Regional District include sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout and Coho salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Bullock Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Typical July readings run about 14°C; by January the average is down near -9°C. The freeze arrives properly here and holds. Break-up comes around mid April, and the run that follows is short and strong. The lid tends to go about mid April and return around mid November. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Bullock Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
The access position is unclear from public sources. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. A phone call first saves an afternoon. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. For a change of water, Bishop Lake is 2.1 km distant. Treat access at Bullock Lake as something to verify.
