A still, cloudless night on the water, with a gentle ripple from the N and pressure going nowhere. Whatever swims in Boulton Lake should be near any hard bottom among the soft. The useful hours run night into morning. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Boulton Lake is one of the North Coast Regional District listings for British Columbia. The water sits 59 metres up. At about 20 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. The whole outline is near 1.8 km, and most of it is walkable. Our North Coast Regional District list holds plenty of bigger water. Supplies mean a trip to Prince Rupert, 130 km off. Metlakatla is 153 km and Ketchikan 176 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Species logged across North Coast Regional District include pink salmon, Coho salmon, Chum salmon, sockeye salmon and Chinook salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Fish Boulton Lake to its features, not to its size.
Averages here run 14°C at the top of summer and 2°C at the bottom of winter. A lid forms in a hard winter only. It is not guaranteed even in a cold spell, so check yourself. Autumn steadies things again once the heat lets go. Boulton Lake runs to its own calendar within the local pattern.
The access position is unclear from public sources. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no mapped parking or launch nearby, which keeps numbers down. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Failing this one, try Watt Lake, 2.9 km away. Check the current arrangement for Boulton Lake.
