No cloud to trap the day's warmth tonight, with a soft NE wind and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Boulder Lake should centre on shallow cover and weed edges. Expect the better fishing from morning through afternoon. Give the likely spots time before moving. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

Set in Capital Regional District, Boulder Lake is a British Columbia water. This is farm and woodlot ground. Small at around 6 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Nearest place of any size is Sooke, 15 km away. Saanich sits 34 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. Close by you have: Butler Lake 1.6 km, Ranger Lake near enough 1.7 km, Tugwell Lake 2.8 km, Forslund Lake near enough 3.1 km and Macdonald Lake 7.6 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Our records carry no depth, so judge it from the bank. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. County-wide records name Chinook salmon, Coho salmon, Chum salmon, rainbow trout and sockeye salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. At Boulder Lake light and wind decide more than tackle does.
August is the warm end of the year here, averaging about 15°C, while January sits near 2°C. Spring and autumn are the strongest, but nothing is truly closed. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. June to September is hot work, so the first and last hours are what count. Boulder Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Where access is informal, keep it that way by behaving. Night access is frequently treated as a separate matter. Butler Lake at 1.6 km is the sensible second choice. None of that is settled for Boulder Lake in what we hold.
