Steady rain over the water today, with light air out of the SSW with a settled glass. Give shallow cover and weed edges the first hour at Border Lake. Not a day the forecast likes; the night keeps a flicker of interest. Lower the pace and stay patient. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Border Lake is a Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine water, in British Columbia. Elevation runs to 91 metres. The water covers some 31 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The bank runs about 3.2 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. It lies lower than most water we list in British Columbia. Wrangell is the closest town at 104 km. After that come Ketchikan at 127 km and Metlakatla at 146 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth went unrecorded, which puts the reading back on you. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Survey and observation records for Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine include pink salmon, Chum salmon and Coho salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Work Border Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-term averages put July at about 13°C and January near -6°C. A solid cap is the normal state through winter. Look for the thaw near mid April; the fishing lifts straight after. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about mid April until roughly mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. The season on Border Lake follows the weather closely.
We hold no note on access for this one. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. Border Lake Provincial Park covers ground next to the water; its rules will apply on that side. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Keep proof of licence with you rather than in the car. Flory Lake, 4.4 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Confirm before you fish Border Lake.
