Wind working the surface all day, with a faint SW drift and the barometer holding steady. Activity on Boomerang Lake should centre on the shaded margin through bright spells. A grinding day likely, with the evening worth the effort if any is. Scale down and fish slowly. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Boomerang Lake in the Regional District of Nanaimo part of British Columbia. It sits at 366 metres above sea level. With some 12 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. Shoreline comes to about 2.4 km, small enough to learn in a day. Nearest place of any size is Wellington, 9.2 km away. Beyond it, Lantzville at 9.4 km and East Wellington at 10 km. There is no boundary nearby to worry about.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Regional District of Nanaimo records list rainbow trout, Coho salmon and Chum salmon among the fish reported. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Work Boomerang Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
The warm month here averages 16°C; the cold one sits at 2°C. The year turns gently, without extremes at either end. In a normal year the cover is thin and short-lived. Late winter often fishes better here than midsummer does. The season on Boomerang Lake rarely departs from it. The hour either side of first light is rarely wasted.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. The nearest alternative is Cottle Lake, 0.3 km out. Check the position on Boomerang Lake before loading the car.
