Snow softening the light today, with a faint SSW drift and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Bish Lake should come off structure within a cast of the bank. A tough forecast; the middle of the day offers the only real chance. Keep baits small and presentations quiet. A raw day: short sessions and precise casts pay.

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine end of British Columbia holds Bish Lake. Tidal water begins 17 km from here. The water covers some 19 hectares, so pick a bank rather than trying to cover it all. The whole outline is near 1.6 km, and most of it is walkable. It is a small entry by Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine standards. The nearest place of any size is Kitimat, 18 km away. Vancouver is the closest city, 668 km away. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Species logged across Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine include pink salmon, Chum salmon, Coho salmon, sockeye salmon and Chinook salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Read Bish Lake for ten minutes before the first cast goes out.
The warm month here averages 12°C; the cold one sits at -5°C. The season turns properly here, and fish follow it closely. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Going by climate averages, expect open water from about late April until roughly late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. Bish Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Look for a notice board at the entrance. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. The nearest alternative is Peechugh Lake, 13 km out. What applies at Bish Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
