Patchy cloud drifting through today, with a mirror surface most of the day and steady pressure. Start the search at Barrier Lake along shallow cover and weed edges. Block out the hours from morning through afternoon. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. A raw day: short sessions and precise casts pay.

Barrier Lake lies in Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, British Columbia. The country here is mixed forest. At 2 hectares it is the sort of place you fish for an evening rather than a day. It is one of the smaller waters we list in Squamish-Lillooet Regional District. Whistler is the closest place, 21 km off. Beyond it, Squamish at 28 km and Pemberton at 46 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Weed, then depth: that is the order to fish a water of this kind. Species logged across Squamish-Lillooet Regional District include Coho salmon, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout and Chinook salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. The shape of Barrier Lake decides where the fish sit.
Expect August to average close to 11°C, with December the cold end at about -6°C. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. After early May the shallows warm and the fish move up. The water is typically free of ice between early May and mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. Plan any trip to Barrier Lake around it.
No access rule appears in what we hold. You can camp 490 m off, which suits an early start. Mapping records toilets within 430 m. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Lesser Garibaldi Lake at 0.7 km is the sensible second choice. Treat Barrier Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
