A hard blow across the water today, with enough SSW wind to stack food downwind and no real change in pressure. Most of the action on Baker Lake should come off any hard bottom among the soft. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. Cooler water spreads fish back across the shallows.

Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen in British Columbia is where Baker Lake sits. The surroundings are lake country bush. It covers about 6 hectares, so this is small water you can walk round in under an hour. The closest town, Peachland, is 10 km distant. Kelowna is the closest city, 21 km away. The boundary is close enough to be worth checking before you fish.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. County-wide records name sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, Coho salmon, common carp and Chinook salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Take Baker Lake a stretch at a time.
Between January at about -5°C and August at about 17°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs cold to warm and back, with clear transitions. Once it clears, about early April, the fishing comes on quickly. On average, early April opens the water and late November closes it again. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. It holds true on Baker Lake more years than not.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Mapping shows no built access close by; expect to walk in from wherever you can leave the car. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Divide Lake sits 1.8 km off and takes the overflow. Ask locally about Baker Lake if anything is unclear.
