A crisp, open sky after dark, with a whisper of wind from the N with the glass holding level. The productive water at Bacon Lake will be around inflow corners and shaded margins. A long productive spell runs the day. A careful, quiet approach will out-fish a busy one. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Bacon Lake lies in Strathcona Regional District, British Columbia. The sea is 26 km distant. With some 27 hectares of water, there is room for a boat but no need of one. A shoreline of some 2.6 km keeps the choices simple. The closest town, Campbell River, is 28 km away. After that come Gold River at 37 km and Oyster River at 37 km. The county line is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
The records we hold are silent on depth, so plan to find it yourself. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for Strathcona Regional District cover sockeye salmon, Chum salmon, pink salmon, Coho salmon and Chinook salmon. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. On Bacon Lake that means starting tight and working out.
Average temperature peaks around 15°C in August and bottoms out near 1°C in January. Some winters cap it and some do not. Some winters give nothing at all, so plan for open water. March through May is the strongest run, with October and November a second stretch. Bacon Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Our records carry no access rule either way. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Check whether bait restrictions apply before you buy any. If the gate is shut, Becher Lake at 2.5 km is the nearest alternative. Treat Bacon Lake as unsettled until someone local tells you otherwise.
