A grey, even sky over the water, with a whisper of wind from the SSW with a settled glass. The water to cover at August Lake is inflow corners and shaded margins. The best of it runs afternoon into evening. Push the good hours hard and rest through the dead ones. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

August Lake is a British Columbia water, British Columbia side. This is taiga country. This is sizeable water at about 3.50 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 9.1 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Start from Fort Nelson, 170 km down the road. It is 837 km to Edmonton, the nearest city. This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. The shape of August Lake decides where the fish sit. Keep your shadow off the water when the bank is high.
Between January at about -21°C and July at about 15°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The window is narrow, and fish feed hard while it lasts. Winter locks it down, and early May brings it back. The open-water window runs from around early May to about late October in an average year. June through September is the settled part of the year, with the shoulders busier for fish. On August Lake that shapes the whole year.
The paperwork position is blank for this one. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. Midwinter Lake at 7.1 km is the sensible second choice. Check the position on August Lake before loading the car.
