Passing showers with dry spells between, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Anutz Lake should come off reed fringes and open pockets. A slow day overall; the evening is the best of a quiet lot. Lower the pace and stay patient. The pre-winter feed makes autumn days generous.

Anutz Lake lies within the bounds of Regional District of Mount Waddington, British Columbia. Open valley runs right down to the water. Around 92 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. The margin runs to about 5.1 km in total. Ground here is low by British Columbia standards. Port McNeill is the closest place, 34 km off. Beyond it, Port Hardy at 62 km and Gold River at 85 km. It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Across Regional District of Mount Waddington, recorded fish include Coho salmon, rainbow trout, Chinook salmon and sockeye salmon. At least one recorded species is protected in parts of its range; read the local rules before targeting anything. Work Anutz Lake in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Long-run averages give August about 15°C and December about 2°C. Temperature moves within a narrow band, and so does the fishing. It should never be assumed safe, whatever the month says. February into May fishes hardest as the water warms. Plan around that when you fish Anutz Lake.
Our records carry no access rule either way. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. You can camp 690 m off, which suits an early start. Mapping records toilets within 740 m. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. For a change of water, Diane Lake is 3.3 km distant. Nothing here settles the position at Anutz Lake for certain.
