Heavy overcast holding through the day, with hardly a ripple anywhere and pressure going nowhere. Start the search at Angus Lake along the first drop-off and weed lines. Little to get excited about, though the night holds a sliver of promise. Lower the pace and stay patient. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Angus Lake is one of the Cariboo Regional District listings for British Columbia. Elevation runs to 977 metres. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. On size it sits at the modest end of our Cariboo Regional District list. The closest town, Quesnel, is 32 km away. For a city, Kamloops is 285 km off. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
No published figure covers depth, so learn it as you fish. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Species logged across Cariboo Regional District include sockeye salmon, Chinook salmon, bull trout and Coho salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Angus Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect July to average close to 14°C, with January the cold end at about -9°C. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around mid April. Ice clears near mid April and comes back about mid November in a typical year. From the thaw to midsummer the fishing improves week by week. Plan any trip to Angus Lake around it.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Nothing formal is recorded here: no ramp, no car park, no marked path. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Some water is controlled locally without a sign saying so. Yeates Lake at 1.6 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Angus Lake for certain.
