Open sky and sharp air tonight, with mild air moving in from the ENE and the barometer holding steady. Most of the action on Amoth Lake should come off the margins and the shelf beyond them. The evening carries the best of the day. Change depth before you change anything else. Autumn fish are feeding up and less fussy than in summer.

The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine end of British Columbia holds Amoth Lake. The surroundings are lake country bush. This is sizeable water at about 2.15 sq km, and a boat opens up most of it. Shoreline length is close to 8.6 km, and each section fishes a little differently. Prince Rupert at 68 km is the nearest place to stop. The nearest city of size is Vancouver, 757 km away. Rules here are straightforward: one set of provincial rules.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Reported across Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine: pink salmon, Chum salmon, Coho salmon and sockeye salmon. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. On Amoth Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
August runs about 12°C on average, January about -5°C. Cold locks it up for a good stretch each year. Count the season from break-up, usually late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about late November. Fishing peaks soon after break-up and again before the cold returns. At Amoth Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Mapping shows an empty shoreline: no ramp, no jetty, no marked entry. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Lachballach Lake at 5.6 km is the sensible second choice. Confirm access to Amoth Lake locally before you travel.
