A sharp, clear morning turning into a bright day, with flat calm through the day and pressure sitting still. Whatever swims in Alpine Lake should be near inflow corners and shaded margins. The evening carries the best of the day. Work the productive water thoroughly. Cold air keeps the water sluggish; scale everything down.

Set in Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, Alpine Lake is a British Columbia water. The coast is 19 km away. Surface area is around 23 hectares, which gives you real water without needing a boat. The bank runs about 3.4 km all the way round, so one visit can cover most of it. The closest town, Terrace, is 118 km away. Further out sit Smithers (152 km) and Prince Rupert (153 km). The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine include pink salmon, Chum salmon, Coho salmon and sockeye salmon. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Read Alpine Lake before you fish it and the day goes better.
Expect August near 11°C and January near -7°C on the long-run figures. Four clear seasons, with a proper winter at one end. The lid usually goes in early May, which opens the strongest weeks of the year. Climate averages put the opening at about early May and the closing near mid November. Look to early summer and the first cool weeks of autumn. Expect Alpine Lake to follow that timing.
Public sources are silent on who controls the bank. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. Mapping is blank for access, so scout the approach before committing the car. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Barbless rules turn up on managed water more often than not. Concealed Lake, 11 km away, makes the obvious fallback. For Alpine Lake in particular, ask before you travel.
