Bright moon and an empty sky tonight, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. The productive water at Thultue Lake will be around reed fringes and open pockets. A tough forecast; the morning offers the only real chance. Treat it as a scouting trip with a rod in hand.

Thultue Lake is an Improvement District No. 24 water, in Alberta. The country round it is spruce and muskeg from end to end. Surface area runs to some 20.35 sq km, so a boat and a plan are both worth having. With about 27 km of shoreline, local advice saves a lot of walking. 107 km away sits Fort Smith, the nearest town. Further out sit Hay River (179 km) and La Crête (224 km). It sits well inside its county, with no border complications.
There is no recorded depth, so work from what you can see. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Reported across Improvement District No. 24: goldeye, northern pike, walleye, cisco and Iowa darter. The list covers the county rather than this water alone, so treat it as a guide. Treat Thultue Lake as a water to read rather than to cover.
Expect July near 16°C and January near -23°C on the long-run figures. Cold dominates the calendar on water this far north. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough early May. Open water usually runs from early May until about early November. The first weeks of open water and the last are the ones to plan for. At Thultue Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. This is a natural basin, not a dammed one. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Rules differ from one water to the next round here. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Arrowhead Lake, 7.8 km away, makes the obvious fallback. Nothing here settles the position at Thultue Lake for certain.
