Stars out and no cloud tonight, with just enough SW wind to ripple the surface and no real change in pressure. The fish at Rockwall Lake are likely to sit near shallow cover and weed edges. If you pick one session, make it the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The cold puts a premium on the calmest, deepest water.

Rockwall Lake is one of the Kananaskis Improvement District listings for Alberta. What surrounds it is lake country bush. Small at around 2 hectares: two anglers spread out cover most of it. Our Kananaskis Improvement District list holds plenty of bigger water. Canmore is the closest place, 47 km off. Turner Valley follows at 58 km, then Black Diamond at 62 km. No border sits close enough to matter.
Nothing in our records gives a depth for this one. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Open biodiversity records for Kananaskis Improvement District list mountain whitefish, brook trout, brown trout and longnose sucker. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. At Rockwall Lake the water rewards a slow, careful approach.
August runs about 11°C on average, January about -11°C. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. Look for the thaw near mid May; the fishing lifts straight after. Average temperatures cross freezing around mid May in spring and again near early November in autumn. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. Rockwall Lake runs to that rhythm year in and year out.
Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Parking within 350 m means no long carry with tackle. Public toilets are recorded roughly 340 m off. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Local rules can differ across the county line, so check where you stand. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. For a change of water, Sounding Lake is 0.9 km distant. The position on Rockwall Lake is worth confirming on the day.
