A crisp, open sky after dark, with a gentle ripple from the SSW and pressure sitting still. Fish at Pierre Lake should hold close to the calm side of the wind. A slow day overall; the morning is the best of a quiet lot. Go lighter and slower than usual. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Look for Pierre Lake in the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 part of Alberta. Beyond the shoreline you have pine and birch. It measures about 43 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. The form is near circular, and the shelter is limited when it blows. For a base, Wembley sits 56 km out. After that come Beaverlodge at 57 km and Grande Prairie at 70 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is unmeasured here, so let the shoreline guide you. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Records held for County of Grande Prairie No. 1 cover longnose sucker, white sucker, largescale sucker, Arctic grayling and mountain whitefish. Several of these carry legal protection or closed seasons; the rulebook comes before the rod. Pierre Lake gives up its fish to patience rather than distance.
Climate records put July near 15°C and January near -9°C. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. Ice-out usually falls in mid April, and the weeks after it fish hardest. Expect the water usable from around mid April until roughly mid November. Fish feed hardest at the start and the close of the open season. At Pierre Lake the season follows that pattern closely.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. A landowner's word beats anything printed elsewhere. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Lingrell Lake sits 16 km off and takes the overflow. Treat access at Pierre Lake as something to verify.
