A closed sky with even light today, with air barely moving with the glass holding level. The productive water at Nose Lake will be around windblown banks where food collects. The forecast backs the stretch from night into morning. Ride the conditions while they last. Fish follow the bait in autumn, so find one to find the other.

Nose Lake stands in County of Grande Prairie No. 1, Alberta. It sits at 1,402 metres above sea level. At about 21 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. A shoreline of some 2.5 km keeps the choices simple. Wembley is the closest place, 74 km off. Beaverlodge follows at 76 km, then Grande Cache at 79 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Nothing we hold settles how deep this runs. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. Records held for County of Grande Prairie No. 1 cover longnose sucker, white sucker, largescale sucker, Arctic grayling and mountain whitefish. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. At Nose Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.
Temperature averages peak at 13°C in July and bottom out at -8°C in January. Cold winters and warm summers give a wide working range. The lid usually sets by midwinter and gives way around late April. Climate figures give an open season running late April to mid November. The middle of summer slows a little, with dawn and dusk carrying it. Nose Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing we hold confirms whether access is permitted. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. The water borders Nose Lake Remote Public Land Recreation Area, so expect the reserve rules to apply. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. A phone call first saves an afternoon. Fishing rules and camping rules are set separately here. For a change of water, Pierre Lake is 20 km distant. Nothing on Nose Lake should be assumed from this page alone.
