Clear overhead with good moonlight, with a mirror surface most of the day with the glass holding level. Give points where shallow meets deep the first hour at Pearson Lake. The useful hours run night into morning. Trust the forecast and stay out through the window. Falling temperatures are switching fish back on.

Out in Wood Buffalo, Alberta, sits Pearson Lake. Mixed forest runs right down to the water. At some 3.47 sq km it is far too large to cover on foot in a day. With 12 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Ground here is low by Alberta standards. Start from Fort McMurray, 137 km down the road. Beyond it, Fort Smith at 230 km and Wabasca-Desmarais at 272 km. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
No depth figure has reached our records, which makes a plummet useful. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Species logged across Wood Buffalo include longnose sucker, Arctic grayling, white sucker and mountain whitefish. The county list is broader than any single water. On Pearson Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Long-term averages put July at about 18°C and January near -22°C. Hard water is a season in its own right here. Once it clears, about late April, the fishing comes on quickly. Break-up near late April, freeze-up near early November: that is the shape of an average year. Right after break-up, and again as the nights sharpen, is when to go. That shapes the year on Pearson Lake.
Public data does not answer the access question here. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing is listed nearby for parking or launching a boat. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Parking is often the real limit rather than the bank itself. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Edward's Lake, 3.5 km away, makes the obvious fallback. What applies at Pearson Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
