Long Lake lies within the bounds of County of Wetaskiwin No. 10, Alberta. It stands 800 metres above sea level. It measures about 56 hectares, which is a comfortable size for bank fishing. Some 5.3 km of bank gives room to move when the wind turns. Nearest town is Calmar, 24 km off. Beyond it, Millet at 26 km and Leduc at 31 km. No boundary runs near, so the local rules hold throughout.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. This is a lake, so the margins and the first drop matter most. County of Wetaskiwin No. 10 records list yellow perch, walleye, northern pike and white sucker among the fish reported. These are county-wide records, so not all of them will be in this water. Fish Long Lake to its features, not to its size.
Seasonal averages run from -12°C in January up to 15°C in July. The middle months are generous; the ends are demanding. The open season starts with the thaw, near enough late April. On average, late April opens the water and mid November closes it again. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Long Lake fishes to that pattern most years.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. Records list it as a natural water body rather than an impoundment. There is no recorded infrastructure here; expect to find your own way in. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Watelet Lake, 11 km away, makes the obvious fallback. The position on Long Lake is worth confirming on the day.
