Damp, showery conditions today, with a light W breeze and the barometer holding steady. On Last Lake, work the calm side of the wind first. A stay-home graph, with the middle of the day as the one excuse to go. Downsize everything and pick the calmest water. Cooling water has fish active and on the move.

Last Lake sits within Municipal District of Peace No. 135 in Alberta. What surrounds it is spruce and muskeg. About 2.65 sq km, so local knowledge or a boat saves a lot of walking. The bank runs in an even curve, so features come from what lies under the surface. The nearest town is Grimshaw, 26 km away. Fairview is 30 km away, with Peace River at 45 km. This one is safely inside the county line.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. At Last Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work.
In an average year July sits at 16°C and January at -16°C. Little of the calendar is open water, so timing counts for everything. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late April and starts locking again about early November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Anyone fishing Last Lake regularly works to that calendar.
Nothing in our records says who may fish here. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Public mapping marks it as seasonal water rather than permanent. No slipway, car park or made path shows up nearby in mapping, so treat access as rough. Where the road in crosses private land, ask first. Signs go up and come down, so check on the day. Failing this one, try Chalmers Lake, 12 km away. Rules at Last Lake are worth checking on the day.
