Wet weather working through today, with mild air moving in from the WSW and pressure going nowhere. Most of the action on Garfield Lake should come off structure within a cast of the bank. Numbers are low everywhere; the morning is the pick of them. Go lighter and slower than usual.

Look for Garfield Lake in the Municipal District of Northern Lights No. 22 part of Alberta. This is boreal forest country. Roughly 38 hectares: a morning covers one end, an afternoon the other. Around 3.1 km of margin, front to back. Head to Peace River, 22 km away, for anything you forgot. Further out sit Grimshaw (24 km) and Manning (59 km). This one is safely inside the county line.
Depth is unknown to us, and the shoreline is the better guide. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Bays and points beat straight shoreline every time on water like this. Municipal District of Northern Lights No. 22 records list longnose sucker, white sucker and northern pike among the fish reported. Species recorded across the county may be limited to a few waters. The near bank of Garfield Lake is often the one people ignore.
Expect July to average close to 15°C, with January the cold end at about -16°C. Winter runs most of the calendar, and everything worth doing happens in the gap. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Open water usually runs from late April until about early November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. Plan around that when you fish Garfield Lake.
Nothing on record says whether the bank is open or closed. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. No built facilities appear in mapping around this water. Light line and small metal for the trout; a fly rod earns its place on calm evenings. Take the rules with you rather than trusting memory. Where parking is tight, arriving early solves most problems. The nearest alternative is Lake St. Germain, 1.9 km out. What applies at Garfield Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
