Low, flat cloud sitting over the water, with a gentle ripple from the SW and pressure going nowhere. The water to cover at Lake Annette is the weed line and any gaps in it. The numbers single out the night. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. The cold will pin fish to deeper, stable water.

Alberta holds Lake Annette, in Improvement District No. 9. It sits in mixed forest country. About 5 hectares of surface, which puts the far bank inside easy sight. Lake Louise at 6.8 km is the nearest place to stop. The big place round here is Calgary, 152 km distant. The boundary is near enough that local access rules are worth double-checking.
Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Species logged across Improvement District No. 9 include brook trout, bull trout and cutthroat trout. Protected fish appear in the records for this area, so treat the list as information, not an invitation. Anyone new to Lake Annette should walk it once before setting up.
Expect August near 9°C and January near -14°C on the long-run figures. Winter shuts things down for a spell, then spring reopens them fast. The freeze runs deep into the year, with break-up near late May. On the long-run averages the water opens up around late May and starts locking again about late October. Late spring and early autumn carry the year between them. Plan any trip to Lake Annette around it.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. If the gate is shut, Temple Lake at 2 km is the nearest alternative. Check the position at Lake Annette before loading the car.
