A crisp, open sky after dark, with light air out of the SSW with the glass holding level. Most of the action on Gedeon Lake should come off points where shallow meets deep. The forecast backs the stretch from the day. Ride the conditions while they last. The season of moving fish: stay mobile and watch for bait.

The County of St. Paul No. 19 entry here is Gedeon Lake, in Alberta. The bank is 574 metres above sea level. Around 53 hectares of surface means several distinct areas to work. Elk Point is the closest town at 12 km. St. Paul lies 28 km off, Vermilion another 50 km. Also worth knowing: Angle Lake 7 km away, Stoney Lake out at 10 km, Hook Lake 11 km away, Lake Eliza out at 14 km and Lac Flammand 14 km away. Being near a boundary, it pays to know which side you are fishing.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. A soft bed grows weed late into autumn, which keeps fish shallow. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Open biodiversity records for County of St. Paul No. 19 list yellow perch, Iowa darter, northern pike, white sucker and walleye. County records show the wider picture rather than this one place. On Gedeon Lake the obvious spot is not always the productive one.
Temperature averages peak at 16°C in July and bottom out at -17°C in January. The ice season is long here and the open one short. The lid arrives early and lasts until roughly late April. The lid tends to go about late April and return around mid November. The strong weeks are the first after break-up and the last before the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Gedeon Lake.
Ownership and access are not documented in what we hold. It is recorded as intermittent, which means the basin empties in dry spells. Pike mean a wire trace, no exceptions; big spoons and jerkbaits do the searching. Read any posted signs at the access point rather than assuming. Where tickets apply, they are sold in the nearest town rather than on the bank. Angle Lake at 7 km is the sensible second choice. What applies at Gedeon Lake may have changed since it was mapped.
