Glare on the water under a clear sky, with mild air moving in from the SSE with a settled glass. The fish at Dancing Lake are likely to sit near inflow corners and shaded margins. The productive run goes morning through afternoon. Start on the obvious water and expand from there. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

Alberta holds Dancing Lake, in Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124. Everything around it is boreal forest. It measures some 1.28 sq km, and wind has room to build across it. With 5.2 km or so of shoreline, boat anglers cover ground the bank cannot. Athabasca sits 51 km from the bank. Edmonton sits 164 km out, and it is the nearest city worth the name. No county line comes close, which keeps the paperwork simple.
Depth here is unknown, so count the lead down before committing. On a natural lake the weed line and the shelf beyond it do the work. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. Fish documented in Municipal District of Lesser Slave River No. 124 include northern pike, cisco, Arctic grayling, walleye and white sucker. What holds for the county may not hold for this water. Dancing Lake responds to conditions more than to tactics.
Long-term averages put July at about 15°C and January near -16°C. Long winters and short summers set the pattern. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late April. Averages suggest open water from about late April through to roughly mid November. Just after the ice goes and just before it returns, the fishing lifts. Keep it in mind when planning a trip to Dancing Lake.
Who may fish here is not settled in anything we hold. No dam controls it, and the level follows the season. Nothing built is recorded close to the bank here. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Parking space is the usual limit rather than the bank itself. A polite question at the farm gate opens more banks than anything else. Spotted Horse Lake at 8.5 km is the sensible second choice. Nothing here settles the position at Dancing Lake for certain.
