Heavy overcast holding through the day, with light air out of the SSW with the glass holding level. On Crow Lake, work the shallows early and the drop later first. The day holds up well from night into morning. Let the water tell you when to move. Autumn rewards covering water while the fish roam.

You will find Crow Lake in Wood Buffalo, Alberta. Elevation runs to 602 metres. The water covers around 2.78 sq km, which puts most of it out of reach from the bank. The edge covers about 16 km, enough to hold several distinct areas. Wabasca-Desmarais at 108 km is the nearest place to stop. It is 264 km to Edmonton, the nearest city. It sits well inside the county, so one set of rules covers it.
Without a survey to go on, judge depth from how the bank falls away. Look for the band where the shallows give up and the bottom falls away. Read the surface for the wind lane, then fish the edge of it. Across Wood Buffalo, recorded fish include longnose sucker, Arctic grayling and white sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Crow Lake gives up more to patience than to distance.
Expect July to average close to 16°C, with January the cold end at about -20°C. Open water is the exception rather than the rule here. After late April the shallows warm and the fish move up. The water is typically free of ice between late April and early November. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. That is the shape of the year on Crow Lake.
Access status is simply unknown for this water. It formed naturally, so levels move with rainfall rather than with a gate. Part of this sits inside or beside Crow Lake Provincial Park, so read the notices. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Check locally before you travel, because a wasted drive is a long one. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. The nearest alternative is Mariana Lake, 18 km out. None of that is settled for Crow Lake in what we hold.
