A clean, cloudless night over the water, with calm air over the water and pressure going nowhere. Lake Neangar should fish best around points where shallow meets deep today. Block out the hours from the day. Cover water early, then settle where the signs are. Cold nights still cool the margins, so afternoons fish better.

In Victoria, Lake Neangar belongs to Greater Bendigo. Dry hill runs right down to the water. At roughly 6 hectares, the whole thing is within casting reach of a single walk. The town to know is Eaglehawk, 0.6 km out. California Gully lies 1.8 km off, Jackass Flat another 2.7 km. Other water nearby: Lake Weeroona 4.8 km, 12 km out stands Crusoe Reservoir, Lake Eppalock 32 km, 38 km out stands Laancoorie Reservoir and Cairn Curran Reservoir 44 km. It lies deep inside the county rather than near an edge.
Depth is not on record here, which means reading the ground instead. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Where the bottom changes texture, fish gather; find that line. Records collected within a few miles name common carp, tench, goldfish and perch. Some of the species recorded here are protected or tightly regulated, so check what may be targeted before you fish. Work Lake Neangar in sections rather than trying to cover it.
Expect February to average close to 21°C, with July the cold end at about 8°C. Heat sets the pattern from late spring onward. The shoulder seasons either side of summer are the ones to aim for. March through May and September through November are the strong stretches. Plan around that when you fish Lake Neangar.
We hold no note on access for this one. A parking area is marked roughly 150 m out. A pier 80 m from here gives a platform over deeper water. Mapping records toilets within 220 m. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. Gates get locked out of season on water like this. Rules for boats are stricter than rules for the bank in many places. Should this one be busy, Lake Weeroona is 4.8 km off. The position on Lake Neangar is worth confirming on the day.
