Dull, settled light over the water, with a decent NNW wind working the banks as pressure slides. The water to cover at Salt Lagoon is the mouth when the tide is running. The night is where the day comes good. Make the first hour count and build on it. Cold nights still cool the margins, so afternoons fish better.

Salt Lagoon is one of the Kimba waters in South Australia. What surrounds it is dry open country. At about 22 hectares, a day is enough to walk the shoreline properly. It is high ground by South Australia standards. The nearest place of any size is Whyalla Jenkins, 75 km away. For a city, Adelaide is 292 km off. Within easy reach: Lake Gilles at 6.2 km, 41 km away is Barna Reservoir and Malgra Reservoir at 58 km. The regional boundary is nowhere near, so one local authority covers the water.
No depth figure appears in our records, so the bank has to tell you. Slack water is dead water on a place like this. Salt and fresh mix here, and the mixing line is worth finding. Anyone new to Salt Lagoon should walk it once before setting up. Change spot before you change tackle.
Between July at about 11°C and February at about 24°C, the water has a wide range to work through. The year runs unbroken and warm. Levels swing with the wet season, which moves the fishing about. The wet months move levels about, which shifts the fishing with them. Plan any trip to Salt Lagoon around it.
We have no record of the rules that apply on this bank. This one is mapped as intermittent, so a wasted trip is a real risk in a dry year. There is no mapped parking or launch close by, which usually means walking in. Where a permit is needed, the nearest town usually sells it. Access can change hands, so last year's answer may not hold. Should this one be busy, Lake Gilles is 6.2 km off. Nothing here settles the position at Salt Lagoon for certain.
