Lake fishing has never been my favorite. I’ve always struggled with knowing where to go and what to do given the fact that there is simply so much water to cover as opposed to the smaller ponds I grew up fishing. As a result, this article was very helpful for me because it gave me a place to start with lake fishing in the first place.
The format of this article was extremely simple, which I really liked — the first section being a list of the best lakes in the United States for fishing. The first lake we get is Lake Erie. While it is a lake that I have never fished, I fully intend to fish there one day for some of the species listed such as perch and walleye. Additionally, the article does a great job of highlighting some different spots around the lake where anglers can focus for better odds of success.
Another lake that stuck out to me was Lake Okeechobee in Florida. I have only heard great things about this lake — particularly about the amazing largemouth bass fishery there. Florida is already a great state for fishing, but Okeechobee appears to be the crown jewel of Florida freshwater fishing.
Another lake from this list that I would love to check out would be Lake Tahoe. The article talks about its abundance of trout — particularly lake trout. These lake trout can grow to be massive, and I would love to get my hands on some one day. Additionally, there are also salmon and other trout species in the lake, which are always fun to catch.
Lake Champlain also looks like an amazing place to fish. For me, this is because I want to catch a monster pike at some point, and this lake appears to hold them. Additionally, there are also lake trout and other species I would enjoy catching as well.
I also think Lake Michigan would be a cool place to fish simply because of the fact that they have native Chinook salmon. These are the biggest and tastiest of the salmon species. I’ve actually had opportunities to fish for these guys before in Alaska and Washington, but unfortunately I’ve never had the chance to get one on the line.
The last of these lakes that stuck out to me was Lake Winnipesaukee. This lake is filled with trout, salmon, and smallmouth. All three of these species I rarely get to target, but when I do, it’s always a great time.
