Turquoise Lake Fishing Guide, Teton County, Wyoming

• Overview

  The Teton County end of Wyoming holds Turquoise Lake. The bank gives way to mixed forest. This is a pocket water of some 11 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. Jackson is the closest place, 11 miles off. Beyond it, South Park at 11 miles and Rafter J Ranch at 12 miles. No boundary runs near, so the county rules hold throughout.

• Where to Fish on Turquoise Lake

  Depth remains unrecorded, so treat the first session as a survey. The shallow end warms first and pulls fish in ahead of the rest. A natural lake fishes on cover, and cover here means weed and timber. Reported across Teton County: mountain whitefish, lake trout and Utah sucker. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. At Turquoise Lake the first feature you find is worth twenty minutes.

• Seasonal Patterns

  Long-run averages give July about 51°F and December about 14°F. Expect a real winter and a strong spring after it. Winter fishing happens on the ice here, with open water back around late May. In an average year the thaw lands around late May and the freeze near early November. September and October fish steadily right up to the freeze. That is the shape of the year on Turquoise Lake.

• Tackle & Baits

  Whether the bank is open is not something our records settle. Nothing is mapped in the way of a ramp or car park within a short radius. Trout here take small spinners, spoons and, where fly water allows, a nymph or dry. State or provincial rules still apply whatever the bank status.
