A grey, even sky over the water, with just enough N wind to ripple the surface with pressure dropping. The fish at Texas Lake are likely to sit near bays that hold the day's warmth. Save your energy for the night. Change depth before you change anything else. The cold will pin fish to deeper, stable water.

This water sits in Sublette County, Wyoming. This is lake country bush country. This is a pocket water of some 15 acres, and every part of it is reachable from the bank. By elevation it is in the upper part of our Wyoming listings. For supplies, Fort Washakie is 22 miles out. Beyond it, Lander at 25 miles and Ethete at 28 miles. The nearest boundary is a fair way off.
Depth figures are not published for this one. The productive water is a rod length or two out, not a hundred. Still water like this holds fish on the edges rather than out in the open. Reported across Sublette County: brook trout, rainbow trout, brown trout and lake trout. Those are county-wide records, so not every one of them will be in this water. Texas Lake fishes better once you know its edges.
Expect July to average close to 48°F, with January the cold end at about 14°F. The year splits cleanly: hard water, then open water. Firm cover through the cold months, then open water from mid June. Averages place the thaw at mid June and the freeze at late October. The open run goes from the thaw to the freeze, and April through October covers most of it. The season on Texas Lake follows the weather closely.
We hold no note on access for this one. No made access is recorded, so a short walk in is the likely arrangement. For the trout, small spinners and a box of nymphs cover both approaches. Sort the permit out before you load the car. Some ground is open by custom rather than by right, so tread carefully. Should this one be busy, Barren Lake is 0.4 miles off. None of that is settled for Texas Lake in what we hold.
